Happy Retirement cake

January 21, 2016

I was asked to make a retirement cake for a very special person retiring from a working life of helping others, completing her final day at Marie Curie Hospice.  It was an honour to make the cake, and knowing Ana as I do I know she loves cake so would appreicate it on all levels!

I have made a few cakes on a doctor/nurse theme and always enjoy making them.  The cake was shaped as a scrubs top in the colours Ana had to wear at work.  All nursing tops need a nurses watch too, with a pen in the pocket.

The cake was a chocolate sponge with salted caramel buttercream.

And what a lovely cake it was too. Looked great and tasted fab too!

Hi Rachel, I write for Marie Curie and wanted to start by saying how much we all loved your cake design. It’s a work of art and such a wonderful way to honour one of our incredible nurses. I also wondered if you’d be willing for us to feature your cake as part of our web content for the Great Daffodil Appeal, which raises millions every March to help Marie Curie Nurses provide care. We’re encouraging people to fundraise by doing something they love, such as baking, and your cake would be a perfect example. If you’re open to the idea, please drop me an email, but don’t worry if you’d rather not. Thank you.
