Catching up on this months fabulous cakes

Wow what a month it has been for Hours of Fun. It’s been none stop in the kitchen making some fantastic cakes for some amazing people celebrating birthdays, christenings, new babys, brides to be and more. Alongside this Hours of Fun has been working with Karen’s Little Kitchen to be part of September’s Gin Explorer box.
First up are 2 christening cakes that I was asked to make. One for a little girl and one for a little boy. Christening cakes are always fun to make as they are colourful and cute with fun cake toppers.
This was a 2 tier vanilla sponge with jam and vanilla buttercream filling. Covered in pink and white icing decorating with stripes and icing balls. Everything is edible except the super cute cake topper. The baby booties are handmade by Hours of Fun out of felt with button decorations. This are a gorgeous keepsake and can be worn too or simply put on display.
The baby booties are made to order and can include names or initials to personalise them. Get in touch if you want to order a pair, they are £10 and come with a clear box for you to keep them in. You can order them with a cake or on their own.
This cake is a 10″ lemon sponge with lemon curd and buttercream filling. Made for a very special little boy getting christened. I’ve had the pleasure of making lots of cakes for this family and this has to be one of my favourite. The cute train cake topper is made from fondant with the clouds of smoke coming out the top being made from flowerpaste attached to wires.
The cubes with the name on are surprisingly tricky to make. It takes some patience and lots of smoothing and shaping to get them into a cube with edges and corners. I love using bunting on cakes and for this cake I used a little fondant mixed with water to pipe the string for the flags to hang from.
